Welcome to Gasthof Simony

Built and first mentioned in a document in the 15th century, the house was used as a theatre for the salt-producing family Wolfen. Our house is situated in an alleyway that is still named Wolfengasse. After the Wolfen stopped the trade of salt, the house became a restaurant. The big fire in 1750 that burned half of Hallstatt destroyed the first and the second floor of the Simony house. The vaults of the ground floor were fortunately not damaged. In 1882, the ancestors of the Scheutz-Höplinger, the Klackl family bought the building and renovated the house turning it into a hotel. Famous explorer of the Dachstein region Friedrich Simony was a regular guest in the house of the family Klackl. To his honour, the hotel was named „Simonyhütte“ which was changed into „Gasthof Simony“ later on.

Rooms outfitted with Swiss stone pine-wood, Biedermeier or German Renaissance furniture

Beautiful lakeside Garden, rooms with balcony

This tranquil haven with its peaceful and picturesque Alpine panorama offers a spectacular view of the Hallstatt lake. You can even jump into the lake from the lawn. Furthermore, the guest house offers the use of canoes free of charge. In and around Hallstatt you can find fabulous trails for mountain biking. During the wintertime, the house and restaurant has many a cosy corner to warm up next to, after a day of sports.

Arriving by train, you take a ferry over the lake. The house is only 80m (87,5 yards) away from the station; only 50m (54,5 yards) from the hotel is the historic museum that exhibits prehistoric findings from the salt mine and the sepulchral finds of the Hallstatt period. Our house is also the starting point for beautiful hiking tours through intact Alpine flora along a timber trail. The skiing resort Dachstein West offers descents up to 11km long (12.030 yards), summer skiing on the glacier, mountain biking and countless hiking trails.

Guest house Simony look forward to welcome you as their guests.

We warmly welcome you in our house.

Susanna Scheutz has been running Gasthof Simony since 1977. Before that she was working there for her parents, who inherited the place in the 1940ies. Since 2013, her niece Mag. Verena Lobisser is running the bussines. Our family business is at your service all year.

Some of our rooms are furnished using Zirbenholz (Swiss stone pine, a local tree now under environmental protection), some are in an old German traditional style and others in Biedermeier styles.

Some of the rooms have balconies facing the lake. The big rooms with alcoves face the middle-age market-place (square) and the baroque Catholic Church. In the morning, a rich buffet with hot and cold beverages awaits you.

Enjoy the beautiful springtime in our region, Salzkammergut! Family Scheutz will also be happy to welcome you for your hiking trip!

To further your comfort, we suggest to arrive by train since our small World Heritage Town does not provide parking space in the center. Please use one of the four Parking lots around the center for a small fee.

Enjoy the home-style cooking, homemade pastery and fresh fish in our beautiful lake side garden.

We are gladly looking forward to welcome you as our guests! To book a table, please call 0043 6134 20 637 or send an Email to: restaurant@gasthof-simony.at
